Security Guard Cries While Kendrick Lamar Performs ‘Love’
Kendrick Lamar seems to have been back to business since the release of his fifth studio album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. A venue security guard was moved to tears during K. Dot's performance of the 2017 DAMN single "LOVE" in Houston on Friday (July 22). In a video posted to social media, the man can be seen wiping away tears as he raps the lyrics.
“I know Top will be mad at me,” he raps. “I had to do it, I want your body, your music/I bought the big one to prove it/Look what you made/Told you that I’m on the way/I’m like an exit away, yep.”
Many others agreed that Kendrick's music may have that impact on individuals, while others were worried that the man's privacy had been "violated." In any event, the viral video effectively showcased the power of music and demonstrated why Kendrick has achieved such success.
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers was released on May 13 and included contributions from Blxst, Sampha, Summer Walker, Ghostface Killah, Baby Keem, Kodak Black, and Beth Gibbons of Portishead, among others. In fact, Kodak made an unexpected appearance during Kendrick Lamar's headlining set at Rolling Loud Miami on Sunday night (July 24).
For the first time, the two performed "Silent Hill," with Kendrick imploring the audience, "Make some noise for my muthafucking n-gga, Kodak muthafucking Black." Kodak Black performed his own performance earlier Sunday night, but owing to his recent drug trafficking arrest, he was obliged to wear a GPS ankle monitor while playing.
Kendrick performed "N95," "Count Me Out," and "Savior" from Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers songs, as well as singles from good kid, m.A.A.d city, To Pimp A Butterfly, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece DAMN.
Baby Keem, a cousin and fellow pgLang representative, also sang "family connections" from Keem's 2021 debut The Melodic Blue.
The Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers Tour began last week in Oklahoma City and will conclude on Wednesday in Tampa, Florida (July 27).
