The Young Dolph mural was painted over by two vandals.
The death of Young Dolph last year shocked the hip-hop community. Everyone from LeBron James to Rick Ross, who said losing Dolph and Nipsey Hussle was like losing Tupac and Biggie, remembers the Memphis rapper warmly.
However, it appears that the two people had little regard for the late musician. On Thursday, Fox13 Memphis reported that a mural honoring Young Dolph had been destroyed in his hometown of Memphis. The two vandals were captured on video.
Dolph's family and the Ida Mae Foundation commissioned the artwork. Local artist Cameron Hill began painting the homage at King Of Discounts Mini Mart in South Memphis four months ago. Hill took a break from the project on Tuesday after receiving some harsh tweets. "I started getting hateful messages and phone calls, so I took a day off," the artist told Fox13.
Hill believes he knows who the vandals are. "The certain group of individuals has been trying to ruin my art career and tarnish my name since last year," he explained. "I have been harassed and also threatened for the last two or three days for trying to do something for the foundation and to make the community look better.
I have been getting calls and texts from different numbers of people trying to plot on me. They have been sending people up there to try to intimidate me and spy on me."
Even after this defeat, Hill remains undeterred, stating, "I'm a king, and I'm going to act like one. One thing is certain: I don't fear man, and I'm not going to tuck my tail and flee. I stand firm in my convictions."
