The killer of Nicki Minaj's father was sentenced to one year in prison for hit-and-run.
According to TMZ, Charles Polevich was sentenced to a year in prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to one count of leaving the scene of an accident and another count of evidence tampering in connection with the February 2021 collision that killed Robert Maraj.

In addition, his driver's license will be suspended for six months, and he must pay a $5,000 fine.

Polevich faced up to seven years in jail on the felony charge, but the court upheld his commitment to no more than one year in prison.

On February 12, 2021, Maraj was strolling down the street in Mineola, New York when he was injured by a hit-and-run vehicle. He was transferred to a nearby hospital before passing on the next day at the age of 64. Polevich was arrested the next week at his residence.

Polevich's attorney earlier stated that his client was "very regretful for whatever involvement he may have had in Mr. Maraj's murder."

"Mr. Polevich's life story is one of assisting others," said Marc Gann, "which makes this case so out of character."  “There are no allegations of substance use or abuse as causative of his conduct and it is our belief that a medical heart issue contributed to Mr. Polevich’s conduct. Mr. Polevich could not be more sorry for the loss of Mr. Maraj.”

In a letter on her official website in May of last year, Nicki revealed "the most terrible loss of my life."

“I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone. Life is funny that way,” she wrote. “May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be very missed.”

Nicki also sent a touching birthday tribute to her late father on Instagram last May, telling followers that she missed him "so so much."
