Kodak Black expressed his disappointment on Twitter after losing the Favorite Hip Hop Song award at the 2022 American Music Awards. Back for Everything, his fourth studio album, featured the single "Super Gremlin."
"My Shit Has Been In The Lead For About 2 Months," Black tweeted, before adding, "All Of A Sudden They Give My Shit Away TODAY!" I just knew I was going to win."
Future went on to win the award for "Wait For U," his duet with Drake and Tems. The song is on his most recent album, I Never Liked You.
"Super Gremlin" reached at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 during its span. The song was also certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in February 2022.
"Super Gremlin" also failed to win Song Of The Year at the BET Awards. Following that, Black called for a platform boycott.
“This whole shit looked like a damn plot,” he said afterward at the time. “They probably hollerin’ at BET, like don’t give him that shit. I told [people] weeks ago. Watch they finna play with me and give it to Frappuccino.”
Kendrick Lamar and Nicki Minaj were among the other hip-hop winners at the AMAs. Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop Album went to Lamar, while Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist went to Minaj.
