His mother then struggled to pay for rent and necessities after moving to a poorer area of Gifford.

Demons joins the Bloods gang when they were young. He began sharing his tracks on SoundCloud when he was 15 years old. Demons were arrested in late 2015 for firing at a gathering of teenagers near Vero Beach High School. He was later convicted of aggravated violence, public discharge of a firearm, and two charges of aggravated assault, for which he served time in jail.

In 2016, Demons took on the stage moniker YNW Melly. Demons, Anthony "YNW Sakchaser" Williams, Christopher "YNW Juvy" Thomas Jr., and Corten "YNW Bortlen" Henry comprised the hip-hop ensemble YNW (an initialism for "Young Nigga World" or "Young New Wave."

Demons published his debut record, an EP called Collect Call, in late 2017, while still jailed, with appearances from a number of well-known musicians, including Lil B and John Wicks. Demons released We All Shine, his second commercial mixtape, on January 18, 2019, while jailed. Kanye West and Fredo Bang collaborated on the project.  The album included a music video created by Cole Bennett with Lyrical Lemonade for "Mixed Personalities," which included West.

Legal issues :

Demons were arrested on three charges of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of discharging a handgun in public on October 19, 2015, after shooting at three persons near Vero Beach High School. Demons were imprisoned for a year before being released on probation.

Demons were convicted in 2017 for breaking his probation and spent many months in prison before being freed in March 2018.  On June 30, 2018, Demons was arrested in Fort Myers, Florida, for marijuana possession, possession of a handgun or ammunition by a convicted felon, and drug paraphernalia.  On January 3, 2019, Demons was arrested again in Fort Myers for marijuana possession.

Authorities claim Demons plotted with fellow YNW rapper Cortlen Henry (YNW Bortlen) to orchestrate the double murder of Williams (YNW Sakchaser) and Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy) and make it look as though they were killed in a drive-by shooting. Henry allegedly drove the victims to the hospital, where they died from their injuries.

Demons surrendered on February 13, 2019. On his Instagram, he stated: "No I did not get locked up in Washington, but I am turning myself in today... a couple months ago I lost my two brothers by violence and now the system wants to find justice.. unfortunately, a lot of rumors and lies are being said but no worries god is with me and my brother @ynw.bortlen and we want y'all to remember it's a YNW Family I love you" — @ynwmelly

The trial was later rescheduled for May 23, 2022. The trial was postponed one more until June 6, 2022. After the trial was halted, Demon's team decided to file a plea for a quick trial on May 26, 2022.
