Following allegations of his suspected jail escape scheme, YNW Melly has spoken out. On Sunday, Akademiks uploaded a video of a prison conversation with the rapper after the Florida Sheriff's Office presented the claim during a court hearing on September 27. (October 2). During the chat, Melly expressed gratitude to God and his followers for their support while he is imprisoned.
"This is YNW Melly," he remarked over the phone. "I just want to let all my fans know that God and Jesus are real, you know what I'm saying?" He has anointed my head with oil, you feel me?
“He has cleansed my soul. He has blessed me to really see the reason y’all love me, the reason everybody loves my music is because of God. He gave me that gift. He is the reason I’m coming home – nobody else.” He added: “I love y’all, and I love y’all so much. I thank God for all of y’all every day. Thank y’all, just keep me in your prayers. Amen.”
On September 29, the Broward County Sheriff's General Counsel's Office provided a document outlining evidence supporting their assertion that YNW Melly attempted to flee.“On April 11, 2022, Broward Sheriff’s Office received a confidential tip regarding inmates Nicholas Lewis and [YNW Melly], both housed in the same unit at the Main Jail, planning an escape from jail by having Demons’ attorney bring in two handcuff keys to aid in the escape,” the statement read. “Additional information provided by the source was that Lewis had a shank and drugs.”
Authorities searched Lewis' cell after receiving a tip from another detainee. They uncovered a six-inch shank, two razor blades, two lighters, rolling papers, and unprescribed Seroquel and Klonopin medications. Melly's cell was also examined, but only commissary food and "excessive jail-issued apparel" were discovered.
