Eve speaks on clearing the sample for Central Cee’s “Doja” - WhatsOnRap

Eve explains why she cleared Central Cee “Doja” sample: “He ate that record”

Eve knew Central Cee ‘Doja Cat’ was gonna be a banger

Eve doesn't let just anybody sample her collection of songs, but she was ready to cooperate for UK rapper Central Cee's "Doja" single - and she revealed why in a recent interview.

In a new interview broadcast on Thursday, Ruff Ryders' First Lady dropped by 1Xtra's Rap Show to chat with presenter Tiffany Calver (March 16).

When Calver mentioned Cee's viral ode to "Doja Cat", which samples Eve and Gwen Stefani's 2001 song "Blow Your Mind," Eve explained her method for accepting - or declining - sample requests. That was a no-brainer for Cee.
“He ate that record!” Eve began. “So for that record in particular, we were very involved because I don’t say yes a lot. We get probably two to three offers a month. It’s usually ‘Blow Ya Mind’ or ‘Who’s That Girl.’ Those are the two that we get.”

She went on to say:

“But him… First of all, knowing and living in London, his name’s already been ringing and I liked him. I was like, ‘Yo, he’s a dope artist.’ And then we got the song and I was like, ‘This song is everything!’”

Watch Eve discuss the sample in the video below:

"Doja" was released in July 2022 and went viral on TikTok for its lyrics, which included the oft-repeated, "How can I be homophobic? "My b*tch is gay." Central Cee became the first UK artist to have a video directed by Cole Bennett with his Lyrical Lemonade video.
