Ice Spice on Female Rap Competition: Fueling Phenomenal Achievements
Ice Spice has recently opened up about the competitive landscape among female rap artists, shedding light on the spirited environment within the industry. In a candid interview with Variety on Thursday (September 28), the "Munch" rapper delved into the cutthroat nature that defines the current generation of leading ladies in Hip Hop.

Acknowledging the underlying competition, she stated,“It is a competition at the end of the day,” she said. “People want to be all, ‘I’m a girl’s girl,’ but then behind the scenes being bitches. Basically, we here, the girls, are doing amazing. I’m excited to see it. I feel like the competition is what keeps us all excited because I think we all secretly enjoy competing and seeing who put that shit on better and who’s gon’ get the most views.

“I can be transparent, and I know the competition is checking on me too, which is why it’s OK to say that. Because it’s like, ‘Yeah, girl, I’m watching you and I know you watching me.’ And boys are watching too, because they be secretly haters.

She continued: “But everybody today is competing with everybody no matter if you a boy, girl, nonbinary, whatever it is. You still checking in on your competition. That’s in every industry.”
Expanding on the broader scope of competition, she notes, "In today's world, everyone competes, regardless of gender or identity. Whether you're male, female, or nonbinary, you're always keeping tabs on your rivals. It's a universal phenomenon across all industries."

While some fans speculated that Ice Spice's use of the term "bitches" was a subtle reference to Latto, given the apparent friction between them this year, it's important to remember that healthy competition is a natural aspect of any thriving industry. As one fan expressed on X, "If there's one thing Ice Spice will do, it's keep Latto on her toes!" Another chimed in, "The Latto reference, we stan Ice Spice."

Adding a touch of humor, someone playfully commented on Instagram, "This can apply to A LATTOf people. Lol."
