Kendrick Lamar,  the acclaimed rapper and Compton native, brought inspiration and wisdom to the 2024 graduating class of Compton College

In a surprise appearance at the commencement ceremony, Kendrick delivered a heartfelt speech that resonated deeply with the graduates.

Kendrick expressed, emphasizing the significance of Compton College to both himself and the global community. He spoke passionately about his hometown, stating:

Here is not only a representation of the world, but it's a representation of me. When I walk out in these cities and these countries, I could be proud and say, this is where I'm from. I still believe in Compton. We breed some of the most incredible individuals, creators, intellectuals, talent. We had it since day one.

Continuing his address, Kendrick Lamar praised the graduating class for their courage and independent thinking:

Some people tell us, this generation don't have what it takes. They wrong though... Y'all have the heart. Y'all have the courage to be independent thinkers.

Kendrick emphasized the value of expressing thoughts with conviction and standing unapologetically for one's beliefs.

"This degree that y'all have right here is just as big as any degree," he declared, emphasizing the value of applying knowledge and resources gained from their education.

Compton College, a public community college founded in 1927, serves as a beacon of opportunity for many in the Compton community and beyond.

In addition to his inspiring speech, Kendrick Lamar announced his upcoming performance at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, scheduled for June 19th (Juneteenth).
