Williams didn't hold back when it came to discussing Drake. In a lighthearted manner, she suggested that Drake would struggle to live down the disses from Kendrick Lamar’s track.
"If there's one lesson we've all learned this year, it's that you don't pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar."
As the beat of "Not Like Us" filled the room, Serena danced enthusiastically, much to the audience's amusement.
After the music paused, Serena continued to poke fun at Drake, using him as an example of what happens when someone challenges Kendrick Lamar.
She said, referring to Drake's beloved Toronto:
"K. Dot will make your hometown not like you. Next time Drake is courtside at a Raptors game, they might just pull a 'Forrest Gump' on him and say, 'Seat's taken.'"
Serena and Drake have a history that adds an extra layer to her jabs. The two were frequently seen together in 2011, sparking dating rumors.
Their friendship seemed to blossom, with the pair even reportedly leaving the 2015 US Open semi-finals together.
However, their relationship cooled before 2017 when Serena married Alexis Ohanian and welcomed their child. Many speculate that Drake’s song "Nothings Into Somethings" hints at the end of their friendship.
Despite their past, Serena's playful ribbing at the ESPYs was all in good fun. Her dynamic presence and sharp humor brought an engaging energy to the awards show, ensuring it was a night to remember.
