Tony Yayo opened up about the challenges of finding peace as a rapper during his appearance on the latest episode of Club Shay Shay.
On a recent episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast, G-Unit’s Tony Yayo shared some raw insight about the challenges rappers face trying to find peace amid the chaos of their lives and careers.
Hosted by Shannon Sharpe, the podcast aired on September 10 and featured Yayo reflecting on his early days in the rap game.
He revealed how he and his crew, led by 50 Cent, operated with a militant mindset during a time when gun violence was rampant in their environment.
“It was a time where there was g*ns everywhere,” Yayo explained. “It's very tough. To this day I watch my back, because being an artist is a tough thing.”
When asked whether he believes peaceis attainable for rappers, Yayo gave a blunt response:
“I think being a rapper, you never have your peace, man .... I think that's just the life of a rapper. You're never gonna have your peace.”
He went on to list the various struggles that come with the lifestyle: obstacles like relationships, substance abuse, gambling, and the pressures to maintain status through flashy jewelry and cars.
All these temptations and distractions, he said, make finding peace nearly impossible for someone in the spotlight.
"There's gonna be obstacles. There's gonna be women, there's gonna be dr*gs, there's gonna be gambling addiction, car addiction, jewelry addiction, keeping up with the Joneses."
