Prosecution Witness in YNW Melly Case Claims Rapper 'Authorized' Hit on Melly's Mother, Melly and His Mother Respond

Documents from the YNW Melly case have surfaced, revealing that a prosecution witness believes the South Florida rapper attempted to murder his own mother. On Sunday (June 26), court records were released from an April 11, 2022 deposition with Detective Danny Polo, referred to as the witness, to determine whether he believes YNW Melly is a gang member. Polo, who has searched Melly's phone, believes the evidence he acquired reveals the rapper is guilty of many crimes, including arranging a hit on his mother.

"Has Melly, in your opinion, authorized any communication for the commission of a crime?" said Polo's counsel, Stuart Adelstein. Polo said, "Yes. If you read his phone, you'll find drug trafficking and gun offenses sanctioning his mother's murder. Those are the things you'd consider 'authorizing.'" Shortly after the records were made public, YNW Melly and his mother replied to the charges on Instagram. Melly's Instagram Story featured an emoji of a woman nursing a baby and a heart, along with the words, "Lies. Fake Agenda Innocent." The court reporter was also mentioned on YNW Melly's mother's Instagram account. "This is sheer desperation," she said on Instagram with a baseball cap and sobbing laughing emojis. Prior to the deposition, on April 4, footage surfaced showing YNW Melly calling his mother "mad as fuck" and accusing her of lying about accusing his manager of stealing money.

YNW Melly is facing a capital trial for the 2018 murders of Chris Thomas, 20, as YNW Juvy, and Anthony Williams, 21, nicknamed YNW Sakchaser. Melly is accused of murdering his two former friends in cold blood and fabricating a story with Henry Cortlen aka YNW Bortlen to convince police that Juvy and Sakchaser were killed in a drive-by. Bortlen drove the patients to a nearby hospital, telling them they had been shot by unknown gunmen. Melly and Bortlen were arrested and charged with the murders in February 2019. Melly entered a not guilty plea in March of that year and has maintained his innocence ever since. If convicted, he might face a death sentence. Melly's trial is scheduled for July 11.
