Akon Recalls When He Bought French Montana A Fake Hublot Watch He Purchased on Canal Street in NYC - WhatsOnRap

Akon's prank: Fake Hublot watch gifted to French Montana.

Akon has once again revived the infamous tale of the fake watch, this time involving French Montana. In a surprising revelation, the renowned singer disclosed that the incident took place in none other than New York City's famed bargain shopping hub, Canal Street.

During an intriguing segment from an upcoming episode of Drink Champs, the chart-topping "Locked Up" crooner was posed with the question of whether he would be gifting French an authentic timepiece to put an end to the recurring anecdote. Akon swiftly responded, indicating that it wasn't just the Bronx rapper who fell victim to the ruse that day.

In his own words, Akon shared,"Listen, me and French got got that day," Akon said. "But I'm the one that lost money. I bought two of them watches, one for me and one for him."

The story continued to unfold as Akon further revealed,  "N***a, I got got too. Cause he came to me and said, 'That's a nice watch,' I said, 'N***a, I got one for you too.' Because at the time...I didn't know what a Hublot was. I just knew that I liked that. That was just a nice watch."

Akon elaborated on the situation, recounting how it all transpired during a visit to a jewelry store located on Canal Street in the heart of New York City. Inquiring about the price of Hublot watches, he was informed that they typically commanded figures ranging from $15,000 to $20,000 in the market.

However, an observant individual within earshot interjected, offering to sell the watches for a mere $5,000. Succumbing to the allure of the discounted price, Akon made the purchase, acquiring two watches one of which ultimately found its way into the possession of French Montana.

The incident first came to light when the Senegalese-born artist shared his tale during an appearance on Real 92.3's Cruz Show back in 2022. According to Akon, French had taken the watch to his jeweler for a routine cleaning, only to discover that it was, in fact, a counterfeit. French promptly relayed the disconcerting news to Akon, informing him of the deception.

Exasperated by the turn of events, Akon expressed his frustration, exclaiming, "He was like, 'What do you mean fake? I was like, 'What do you mean fake? The shit tick, don't it? The shit work, right?'" Akon said. "Not only was I upset because I paid, like, five grand for each watch… In my mind that was expensive for a watch. But obviously, for a Hublot, that was no money. That was a huge discount… So I'm like, 'This ungrateful ass n***a."

The situation left him not only perturbed due to the substantial amount he had shelled out $5,000 per watch, which he believed to be a considerable sum but also bemused by the realization that his perception of the cost was vastly different from the actual value of a Hublot. Akon couldn't help but feel disappointed by what he perceived as ungratefulness on French's part.

French Montana took to his Instagram to share a snippet of the interview, demonstrating that he had no ill feelings toward Akon regarding the incident. However, he playfully reminded the singer that he still had an outstanding debt an authentic timepiece that he eagerly anticipated receiving. "Forgive u my brudda," he wrote alongside laughing emojis. "U still owe me a real watch."
