Diddy Won't Face Charges for Alleged 2016 Assault on Cassie Ventura, Says L.A. District Attorney

L.A. District Attorney Says 2016 Diddy Assault Video is 'Extremely Disturbing' but Too Old to Prosecute, Explains Why No Charges Will Be Filed

L.A. DA: Diddy 2016 Assault Video Disturbing, But Too Old to Prosecute
The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office expressed strong condemnation over the recently released footage from 2016, showing Sean 'Diddy' Combs violently assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.

Despite the disturbing nature of the video, the DA's office cannot pursue charges due to the time elapsed since the incident.

The video, which CNN aired on May 17, prompted a public response from District Attorney George Gascón.
He took to Instagram to address the limitations his office faces in prosecuting the case, citing the statute of limitations as the main barrier.

L.A. County DA Explains Decision Not to Prosecute Diddy Over Shocking 2016 Video:

In California, the statute of limitations for misdemeanors is one year, and for felonies, it is three years. This legal timeframe makes prosecuting the 2016 assault impossible, given that it happened eight years ago.

The footage in question shows a harrowing scene in a hotel hallway, where Combs is seen chasing Cassie, grabbing her violently, and repeatedly kicking her.

The incident took place in the now-closed InterContinental Los Angeles in Century City.

The release of this video follows the settlement of a 2023 lawsuit filed by Cassie against Diddy. In her lawsuit, Cassie accused Combs of rape and abuse, detailing multiple assaults in various Los Angeles hotels, including the InterContinental.

This situation highlights the complexities and challenges in the legal system when it comes to prosecuting historical cases of assault and abuse.

Despite the clear evidence presented in the video, the legal constraints prevent any formal charges from being filed against Combs.

The hip-hop community and fans of both artists are left grappling with the implications of the footage and the legal statement from the DA's office.

This case underscores the importance of timely reporting and the limitations of legal recourse in cases of historical abuse.

As the story continues to develop, it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding domestic violence and the legal hurdles that can impede justice for victims.

The video’s release and the DA's response have sparked widespread discussion and calls for changes in how such cases are handled in the future.
